Prayer for Brown: Reverend Kristin Boswell-Ford

From Reverend Kristin Boswell-Ford, Associate Chaplain of the University for the Protestant Community

Oh Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:1, NIV

We thank you for holding us close as we move throughout our hectic daily lives. We need only to pause and look out at the glorious sunshine that chased away the last vestiges of a devastating storm to see your awesome greatness. We feel you in the crisp breeze that rattles the leaves as their vibrant colors fade and they begin to fall to the ground. We feel you in the cool bite of autumn air against our faces, and in the clear, cold nights that bring the calm expectation of impending winter. We need only open our eyes, our ears, our minds and our hearts to see you reflected everywhere, and for that we are thankful. We thank you for being ever present in our midst!

Loving God, dwell among us and within us as we move throughout our days here at Brown University. We ask that you bless us—each student, faculty, staff, family, and community member—and that you direct our paths as we move throughout this place, and when we depart from it. We ask that you watch over us and that you bless our days and our nights with a clear understanding of your will and purpose for our lives. We pray that you grant us the unapologetic audacity to live into your will and purpose for our lives with clarity and boldness!

Gracious God, we understand the great privilege of being in the midst of this awesome community of learning, and we ask that you enable us to be good stewards of that privilege, that we might go out in the world and with your help, do nothing short of immeasurable good. It is our prayer that we will emerge from our time spent here at Brown University much as a butterfly emerges from its chrysalis. We pray that we will move out into the world with wings outstretched, ready to soar, but with the humility to know that it is your breath that lifts us, holds us, and allows us to fly.

We know that it is in you that we live and move, and have our being, and for that we are eternally grateful. We lift our hearts to you, knowing that with you, we can do anything but fail!

Amen.
